Body, Mind & Spirit Family and Childbirth Resource Center going through a Rebirth - Erika Harding
Season's Greetings, everyone! I have been missing from the Body, Mind & Spirit scene for a few months now, and I wanted to give all my friends and clients an update on the changes facing our lovely business and my path, as well. As some of you know, my children are no longer little ones, as my oldest daughter just turned 11 and will enter middle school next year. My years at home with them, and running Body, Mind & Spirit and helping birthing families as a Doula, have been fabulous. In the last few years, however, I have begun to think about what is coming next in my life. After eight years of running this small, family-oriented business I decided it was time to let it evolve into something else, under someone else's direction. Hiring Amylee as my business manager helped me get the business organized and ready to be passed on. I began to research employment in the public health sector (even though my MA is in Latin American Studies), and have just recently taken a half-time job at UNM's Health Science Center with Project ECHO, working to create a diabetes training program for community health workers around the state to reduce health care disparities. Body, Mind & Spirit has found a terrific new home, and I hope you will help us celebrate this last (and hopefully final) move at our Open House on Dec. 6. Amylee, who I first met as an expectant mother in one of my birthing classes seven years ago, is joining forces with Amity Johnson, a longtime Albuquerque doula and birth educator who has been my doula partner on and off over the years, to take our resource center forward. I am so grateful for the powerful notes and testimonials many of you have written to me over the years, and I feel so blessed to have been present at so many births and family transformations. I would love to remain in contact with any of you who wish to talk about your births, your parenting challanges and successes, or your search for enriching work while balancing a grounded family life. I have walked, and continue to walk, this line and continue to seek balance in the various elements of my life. I will not be able to attend the Dec. 6 party due to travel plans (the freedom from being on-call!), but can be reached at erika@bodymindandspiritabq.com or eharding@salud.unm.edu. Thank you all for allowing me to share in your lives and births! - Peace, Erika |

FREE Family Health Day will have SOMETHING for you! Yoga? Chirpractic care? Nutrition? Exercise? We'll be presenting for the FIRST time Nourishing Our Children, a new way of looking at food and nutrition. This is not the low-fat, less sugar message you've heard everywhere else. This is about traditional foods and how returning to them can bring optimal health for our children. If the low-fat message never set right with you, come learn more! If you wonder why suddenly no one can/should drink cow’s milk, come learn more! If soy doesn’t seem like a wonder food to you, come learn more! This presentation will benefit those with children, but also those preparing to conceive or those with their own nutritional concerns. All day Saturday, January 10th. More details online. |

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE The 2009 MAU calendar, The Moment, is dedicated to moments of personal change that shift the direction and purpose of our lives. Often these extraordinary moments are heralded by very ordinary tasks. They arrive -- when we're cradling babies, grocery shopping or bicycling -- and begin magically transforming us into passionate advocates.
The Moment is a weekly engagement calendar that also offers tools, information, weekly actions and most importantly, portraits of people who inspire our own activism – from the mom next door, to new moms, to Isabel Allende, Paul Hawken, Mukhtar Mai and Julie Chavez Rodriguez. This calendar and guide is a tribute to pivotal moments of change, designed to incite your own year of Moments! |
